HighPoint offers 15K RPM RAID solution for gamers

Power Mac G5 and Mac Pro gamers have a new high-performance disk system available to them, through HighPoint Technologies' RocketRAID 2640x4, a 4x PCI-E SAS hard drive RAID system. The system offers users 56-percent increased performance over 10,000 RPM SATA drives, with 128MB per-second transfer speeds, offering users lower average latency and lower read/write seek times. The RocketRAID 2640x4 sells for $165 from HighPoint's website.

The RocketRAID 2640x4 card supports RAID levels 0, 1, 5, 10, and JBOD. Users require Mac OS X 10.4 or higher, and an available four-lane PCI-E slot.

15k for Gamers?

I don't see the connection between the product announcement and either 15k drives or gamers. I understand that the only available 15k drives are SCSI or SAS, but any number of adapters would enable the use of 15k drives. As for any gamer specific features? The HighPoint site doesn't seem to mention any on the product page, and there would highly questionable claims of improved game performance by using a 15k RAID. Drive access and usage profiles targeted by 15k drives don't align with those presented by video games.
