Samsung Instinct to reach Canada, rival iPhone

Samsung Instinct for Bell

Bell Canada today said it would be the first carrier outside of Sprint to carry the Samsung Instinct. The touchscreen cellphone will keep the same custom interface designed by the US carrier and will be Bell Canada's most direct answer to the iPhone 3G's appearance on Rogers with similar features. Bell's version of the phone should have the same EVDO Revision A-based 3G Internet access, true GPS, and full HTML web browser as the American model.

In a unique twist, however, Bell also promises less expensive and more varied Internet access than either Sprint or what Rogers will offer for the iPhone 3G: the handset will qualify for Bell's $10 unlimited on-device browsing plan, which should allow most users to get at least web browsing for significantly below the $60 minimum plan for Rogers' iPhone and Sprint's $70 plan. Extra plans will also be available to listen to Internet streaming versions of some SIRIUS satellite radio stations and to watch 20 Internet TV stations.

Bell plans for the Instinct to reach stores on August 8th and will sell the phone for as little as $150 on a three-year contract; its price increases to $250 on a two-year plan, $400 for one year, and $450 for a contract-free edition.

Seriously...

OK, seriously, the iPhone plan for the iPhone that's JUST data is 30 dollars, the bell plan would be 10 dollars. Yes it's cheaper but the 60 dollars for the iPhone plan INCLUDES VOICE! Oh my goodness can you please try and at least report something that makes sense. Yes Rogers prices are bad, no Bell is not somehow amazingly better. All cell carries in Canada suck when it comes to data.

So? If you don't want to use the voice, you still have to pay $60 for the iPhone. Can you get this with just the $10 data plan?

Well, according to the story, the $10 plan is 'unlimited', so how does that suck?

i don't like bell either but their $10 plan is a heck of a lot better than anything rogers/fido has to offer. fido in particular has a nasty habit of offering limited-availability plans. if you happen to luck out on one (like my $25 unlimited incoming, no contract plan) then it's all good and dandy.

$10 Data is a good thing

Well, $10 for unlimited data added on to a $30 calling plan is pretty damn good... let's see if it includes email and IM though. Given that this phone has a comparable feature set to the Blackberry, and Blackberry unlimited data runs $30/month, I have my doubts about the accuracy of this. There's gotta be a catch.

$10? Where?

07/10, 03:44pm reply

I've been checking Bell's website and can't find this $10 deal that everyone's referring to. Can someone provide a link?
