Sidekick 2008 due July 30

T-Mobile's Sidekick 2008 now has a solid release date, says a new document leak through BGR. The rebranding of the Gekko has now been confirmed and should be introduced through T-Mobile on July 30th, likely replacing the normal Sidekick LX outside of the Tony Hawk Edition.

The escaped information also confirms most of the hardware details of the 2008 model, such as its 2.6-inch widescreen LCD, a 2-megapixel camera capable of video capture, and swappable faceplates with art patterns instead of the solid colors that were used for the Sidekick ID. Bluetooth with stereo audio support and microSD storage are also expected for the messaging slider phone, though it will still use EDGE for data rather than T-Mobile's fledgling 3G network.

In spite of the mew features, the new Sidekick is allegedly to be pitched as a budget device and should be priced to match, though the 'phone's actual cost didn't accompany the leak. Existing Sidekick LX and Slide models sell for $200 with a two-year plan.
