WinAmp to allow online music stores

WinAmp 5 54 Adds Stores
AOL today revealed a significant update to WinAmp that gives the software its first access to online music stores. The 5.54 upgrade puts in a commerce foundation that allows buying songs directly from the jukebox; it also permits buying ringtones, tickets, and physical CDs. The company hasn't named any stores that will integrate with the service but is likely to focus on stores selling MP3s and other unprotected music.
The update also builds in access to AOL Radio's streaming channels, an ability to find videos and other artist info without leaving the software, and a toolbar to let Firefox and other web browsers control WinAmp.
A basic version of the software is available for free as of today and includes all the new features, while AOL continues to offer a Pro edition for $20 that adds faster burning as well as the ability to rip tracks in AAC, MP3, WMA, and similar formats.
