Imation boosts Apollo portable drive capacity to 500G

Imation on Wednesday announced the release of a new Apollo portable hard drive with a 500GB capacity. Previously, the largest 2.5-inch Apollo HDD was available in a 320GB size, along with a 250GB and 160GB units. All four are just over a half-inch thick and weigh less than a half-pound. The only connection required is a USB 2.0 cable, which allows for data transfer at speeds up to 480Mbps as well as providing power to the drive.

The Apollo drives are compatible with Windows 2000, XP and Vista, Mac OS 10.2.8 and higher and Linux 2.4 and higher operating systems. The included Total Media Backup software works with PCs and Macs. The software lets users schedule backups, or synchronize and restore files through a simple interface.

Available only in black with chrome details, the Imation Apollo 500 GB Hard Drive can be currently purchased in stores and online for $320. It is also available in 160GB, 250GB, and 320GB capacities priced between $90 and $170.
