Friday, August 1stVerizon gives Visual Voicemail to LG Voyager
Verizon today inadvertedly revealed that it will give owners of its LG Voyager touchscreen phone an option that brings their devices closer to iPhone functionality. The Visual Voice Mail app would let users see who has called and play messages in any order, much like Apple's implementation. The new software would nonetheless have slightly more features, with the option of not just calling back but also of replying directly to voice mail or of sending a text, picture, or video message.
The software will be a staple feature of an updated Voyager, nicknamed the Voyager Refresh, but should also be available as a software upgrade for owners of first-run phones. Verizon's early page for Visual Voice Mail also indicates that other phones will eventually receive the feature and that the software won't be limited to touchscreen devices, as a directional pad will also be usable with the software.
It's unknown as to how soon Verizon will officially launch the upgrade, though the voicemail feature is likely to require a small monthly subscription fee. [via Phone Arena]

But what I can't believe is that Verizon will probably be charging a small fee to access this service! That is so unlike them!

but the feature i love is that "only verizon customers can receive visual voicemail messages". seriously. how are people supposed to know this? go through the trouble to create a response to a message only to find out the recipient was calling from a land line? whatever.
Voyager and iPhone
Voyager's keyboard is wonderful. Touchscreen is horrible and too small but beautiful screen to watch TV or music videos. It's Video codec is revolting. BREW operating system horrible too and all the features you have to pay for. Also I could never get a simple jpeg to view from an email.
The iPhone is full of grease stains, horrible, no keyboard horrible too but so much of its functions cost nothing.
Apple sets a high bar for function and doing what it does very well. No point in having video if it is going to be like the Voyager. However I never had a dropped call with the Voyager but that's the network.

More nonsense from the company that disables your phone's standard features so they can sell them back to you.

Apple does it again
Again - Apple forces competitors to improve or get left behind. If it weren't for Apple and the iPhone, I seriously doubt Verizon and Sprint would be adding so many new features to their phones.
Say what you want about Apple, love them or hate them, they make everything better - even the things they don't make.
Very long distance msgs
Judging from the "compose message" screen shot above, somebody at Verizon or LG is a "Star Trek:Voyager" fan. How long is it gonna take for that message to reach the Delta Quadrant?
