ASUS intros web-based storage and download services

With added competition in the UMPC market that ASUS arguably invented with its Eee PC line-up, the Taiwan-based company is taking steps to make its products more appealing to buyers. According to a Thursday report, ASUS president Jerry Shen announced the company will soon launch an online storage service called Eee Storage as well as Eee Download, which will allow Eee PC owners to download more than the current number of roughly 3,000 software and game titles for free.

The Eee Storage service has been recently launched in Asia, and provides 20GB of online storage, more than doubling the 8GB of SSD storage afforded by the Eee PC 8G sold in the US. The Storage interface will offer a drag and drop interface and allow users to share content via password-protected sections.

Eee Download will eventually expand into an online store that will provide users with the choice of downloading music and other content. Initially, the service will focus on Asian markets and support the Eee UMPCs, ASUS' notebooks and systems running ASUS mainboards as well.
