ASUS Eee Box arrives in US stores

The long-awaited ASUS Eee Box mini desktop PC is now in stores, popping up on J&R's webstore. Asus is so confident in the ease of use for its design that it does not include a user's manual for what it calls the world's smallest PC. A VESA mount is included to allow the PC to be affixed to the back of an LCD monitor for a clean installation. Thanks to ASUS' Express Gate instant-boot shell, accessing popular programs or applications such as Internet browsers, IM programs, email and media takes as little as five seconds.

The PC ships with Windows XP Home operating system and runs on Intel's 1.6GHz Atom chip. The Eee Box offered by J&R includes 1GB of RAM and an 80GB hard drive, although other versions are expected to arrive soon. Graphics processing is handled by Intel's GMA 950 integrated graphics chipset. Like previously reported, 802.11n Wi-Fi is integrated into the Eee Box, along with a memory card reader.

The Eee Box ships with a keyboard and mouse and includes a DVI connection, in addition to an optical audio output as well as four USB ports in total.

ASUS' Eee Box is available in both black or white and is priced at $350.
