Griffin intros new iTrip

Griffin Technology on Friday announced the release of its iTrip Universal FM transmitter for MP3 and CD players. As the name suggests, all that's necessary to hook up the iTrip to any portable audio device is connecting the 3.5mm headphone cable to the iTrip. The Universal version is the first iTrip device to use a built-in rechargeable lithium-ion battery via a USB connection.

The backlit LCD display shows the current FM frequency selected, and the unit has three memory settings for saving users' favorite frequencies. An included cable with the 3.5mm stereo plug on both ends provides the connection between the iTrip Universal and the portable audio device.

The iTrip Universal is available now in stores and via Griffin's web store, priced at nearly $40.

    Another cap to lose

The cap will be lost immediately. Never, ever buy a device with a USB port that has an unattached cap. It will get lost -- guaranteed -- but replacing it is often impossible.

If the cap were just attached with a loop and a bit of string, that'd be smart. As it is, the design is dumb.

    Agreed...

the design is not smart. I like the size and shape of it though. That cap would be lost by me probably the first time using it. What would've been sweet is if it had a retractable USB plug instead. Griffin could have made it perhaps an inch longer and had the USB plug slide out and back in.

    The Cap!?

    Never mind the Cap!
Why didn't they design it to interface directly with the iPod Universal Connection? It would have been a lot easier to carry...

    "A lot easier to carry?"

It's already easy to carry! And by universal connection, if you mean the dock connector, then it wouldn't be universal. If you read the text, Griffin designed this thing to work with almost ALL players, including the iPod! That's why it connects through the headphone input! It is universal!
