Fujifilm S2000HD Official

Fujifilm this morning confirmed its inadvertent leaks with multiple FinePix camera updates ahead of next month's Photokina camera expo. The 10-megapixel S2000HD ultrazoom slightly improves the earlier S1000fd with a longer 15X zoom, 720p widescreen movie capture as well as 16:9 ratio still shots, and the option of exchanging resolution for speed at either 6.8FPS (at five megapixels) or 13.5FPS (at three megapixels). Unusually for the camera class, the S2000HD will run on AA batteries when it ships in September for US pricing of $300.

The F60fd switches back to a conventional compact form with a 12 megapixel sensor but a 3X zoom lens. Versus the earlier F50fd, the new model adds full scene recognition to automatically tune color balance and virtually all other settings for true beginners. It also supports hardware image stabilization and an improved face detection system that supports sharper angles, more faces, and will optionally remove red eye from shots taken with flash. Fujifilm ships the F60fd at the same time as the S2000HD and prices it at an identical $300.

A third entry, the J150w, is the lone budget introduction today for the US market. The 10-megapixel camera is the first J-series to sport a wide-angle lens and shoots at a film equivalent 28-140mm with 5X zoom, improving its ability to take shots of large family portraits or landscapes. It also receives the newer face detection support but relies on ISO boosts rather than hardware to stabilize the image. The camera maker gives the J150w a large three-inch preview LCD and ships the point-and-shoot in September for $200.

Other lower-end J-series cameras, such as the J100, J100w, and J15, haven't been announced for the US and are currently intended for outside markets.

    JS150W great deal!

This camera strikes me as a good price for the features (if they live up to promises). My son has been itching for a camera so I may spring for this once reviews come out. I have a case that will fit it (point in his favor) so he can't do it too much damage:
