InHand set to unveil Atom-based FireFly SBC

InHand Electronics will show its FireFly ultra mobile PC to the public at the Intel Developer Forum set to take place starting on August 19, the company announced on Wednesday. The single-board computer will use the Intel Atom processor running at 1.6GHz and System Controller Hub, and is meant for OEM developers of UMPCs, mobile Internet devices and similar handhelds.

The board includes a four-wire resistive touch screen interface, a serial port, audio and video outputs, USB 2.0 host and client, as well as ExpressCard and microSD slots. Hard drives can be hooked up via one on-board PATA interface, with a daughter card supporting a second PATA connection. SATA HDDs can be used via an optional daughter card or ExpressCard. The standard board features 1GB of on-board memory, and the OS choices are between Windows XP Embedded and Linux. For security, the FireFly platform has a module for secure booting.

The 3.7- by 4.5-inch single-board computer will offer features such as onboard 802.11, Bluetooth, and GPS are supported as options.

Pricing or release dates for InHand's FireFly have not been released, although the product is expected to ship soon after its unveiling next week.
