Canon 100 millionth camera

Canon will celebrate the recent shipment of its 100 millionth compact digital camera by releasing a special edition in the near future. Canon's first compact digital was the PowerShot 600 introduced in 1996. Over 100 different models have been delivered by the company since then. Most of the production has come from Canon's Oita facility in Japan, with plants in Malaysia and China now contributing.

Canon cited a few of their cameras that had a positive impact on their sales. The Ixus Digital released in 2000 and IXUS-i that targeted female users both showed significant consumer interest. The PowerShot A70 was the best-selling model worldwide in 2003 according to Canon. The 10 MP PowerShot G7 was also included, along with the PowerShot S5 IS with 12x optical zoom, both introduced in 2007. A special edition color camera will be released to mark this occasion, although an exact date was not given.
