Solver for Excel 2008 arrives ahead of schedule

Solver for Excel 2008 has arrived ahead of its mid-September prediction, via Frontline systems, according to the Mac Business Unit blog, Mac Mojo. Solver for Excel 2008 brings linear programming to Excel 2008, allowing Solver users to finally move from the Excel 2004 versions they had to run to utilize the add-in's abilities. Solver allows businesses and schools to execute programs in Excel, determining capacities, minimums/maximums and scheduling loads.

Before the arrival of Solver for Excel 2008, Solver users had to run Excel 2008 and Excel 2004 concurrently, or not utilize the 2008 version at all. Frontline systems had drifted away from Mac development, but was encouraged to return by the Mac's resurgence, its move to Intel processors and the MacBU Excel team.

Solver for Excel 2008 runs on Mac OS X 10.4.9 or higher, and Mac OS X 10.5.4 and above. It requires Office for Mac's Excel 2008 v12.1.2 or later. The add-in is free and available now for download.
