Zune 16 leak confirms modest upgrade

A leak from a Canadian source to Zunited suggests the next Zune update will be limited chiefly to capacity upgrades. The cameraphone image, which also includes the previously confirmed 120GB Zune, shows a 16GB version of the flash-based Zune which is all but identical to the existing model outside of a glossy surface, indicating that both of Microsoft's existing music players will see few actual hardware changes for their expected fall update.

Microsoft hasn't responded to the apparent confirmation but has said that its device updates would be part of a larger strategy in the fall that includes software upgrades, although it has declined to explain what changes it will make to the Zune's firmware or its accompanying software.

The reported change comes as Apple is rumored to be planning more substantial changes to its fourth-generation iPod nano line that would bring it closer to a Zune-like design but with a larger screen; these reports have come into dispute with photos of what is allegedly a similar-looking generic MP3 player. Apple is also known to be planning a significant iPod touch revision that has yet to be answered by an equivalent for the Zune series.

Look at the pluses of owning a zune. No one will steal it, colored to match BMs and comes with a crackalacken zune community, willing to squirt you a tune at a moments notice.

...the brown and orange? What is this, the 70s? They should go further and make a Zune with a faux-woodgrain veneer.

...it's just crap. If you see one, feel one, use one, it doesn't take long to realize that the player is just a piece of crap. I'd rather have a Sansa that this thing!
