Commodore is alive, introduces 10-inch netbook

Proving not to be a former household name, Commodore has come back and introduced the UMMD 8010/F netbook at the IFA 2008 show in Berlin. The new Commodore netbook is built around a 10-inch screen, with processing power coming from a 1.6GHz VIA C7-M CPU. While full specs are not known, including the operating system, an 80GB hard drive is to be part of the picture, along with 1GB of RAM.

Like most others in the segment, the UMMD 8010/F is to include a 1.3-megapixel camera and 802.11b/g Wi-Fi capability, with Bluetooth as an option. With a price tag of nearly $600, the Commodore netbook isn't likely to steal any sales away from ASUS' more established and less expensive Eee PC range. No release dates are currently known. No, Commodore is dead for a long time. They sold their PC technology to Acer in the early '90s to only build Amiga computers.

The company you're talking about just bought the name and the logo.

Commodore is really dead :(

That really does look like a Commodore, almost looking like a flattened PET with its white plastic casing. I almost want to dig my Amiga 3000 out of the basement.

It doesn't take a Master's degree in Photoshop to focus in an see that the OS on there is WinXP. Not that I expected it to be OS X, but I prefer my V20 memories without components sourced from Redmond WA.

agreed commodore is dead. It doesn't matter to me if this Commodore has an 'unbroken line of bishops' back to the original Commodore church.

But it would have to not just be another pc, otherwise, well, its just another pc. And the clone makers who bought the commodore name, sure as heck had no plans to be innovative in the computer space.

I loved my Amiga 1000 but couldn't stand the ugly interface.
This must be a hobbiest's attempt, the track-pad is tiny and the whole thing is not very practical. Alos Commodore doesn't even have a website anymore, the assets are owned by Gateway!
