10 iPod SKUs for Next Week
Apple may have as many as ten different iPod nano variants ready for an update next week, says a person with access to the inventory system of French retailer Darty. The store lists 10 new entries for iPods and lists the current iPod nano as out of stock, with resupply not expected until the September 9th timeframe widely rumored as Apple's official launch date for its yearly iPod refresh. Details of the new iPods themselves are unknown, though the timing suggests the 10 listings are different color and capacity levels for a new iPod nano rather than different models altogether.
The revisions allegedly planned for next week are thought to include the reported iPod nano redesign as well as minor changes to the iPod touch, with possible changes to the iPod classic and iPod shuffle as well. iTunes 8 would also accompany the group and is claimed as bringing major changes of its own.
Conflicting reports have suggested a tall, narrow iPod nano with a tapered design that has been borne out in premature case introductions, although at least one other leak has also suggested the rumored design may actually be (or share design with) a recent Chinese iPod clone.
