LaCie unveils new Poulton-designed USB speakers

LaCie has unveiled new portable USB speakers designed by Neil Poulton. This new product is a follow-up to its FireWire speakers released earlier this year, but with expanded compatibility. With the new interface, no drivers are required and MP3 players can even be attached with an optional power adapter. For aesthetics, the cables can be hidden underneath the speakers, and a carry case is included.

According to LaCie, the frequency response is 90Hz - 20kHz, supporting a 16-bit/48kHz signal. Using the power available from the USB connection, the high excursion neodymium drivers output a minimum of 1W per channel. For users that do have a FireWire connection, the previously released speakers are capable of a minimum 4W per channel and support a signal up to 24-bit/96kHz. The USB speakers are available now for $60, or the FireWire speakers for $100.
