JVC intros thin, advanced Procision LCD HDTVs

At the CEDIA Expo on Thursday, JVC showed off its new range-topping Procision line of LCD TVs, comprised of the 42-inch LT-42X899, the 47-inch LT-47X899 and 52-inch LT-52X89. In addition, JVC offered a couple of Super Slim Procision LCDs, the 42-inch LT-42SL89 and the 46-inch LT-46SL89, which are 2.9 inches thick in the center, tapering down to 1.5 inches at the edges. All feature 1080p resolution, though the thicker Procision LCDs are alone in offering a new 120Hz display panel that supports 24/30p HD signals and the company's sixth-generation Clear Motion Drive III engine that uses a 32-bit Genessa processor.

The X-series LCDs include three HDMI 1.3 inputs, two of which have CEC support, along with a couple of component and S-video inputs, a single PC input and an Ethernet jack. A digital SPDIF audio input delivers sound to the pair of 20W speakers, while a USB jack and PhotoViewer program allows viewing JPEG photos stored on USB devices. Thanks to the new processor and new software, each set is capable of performing 36-bit (12 bit x 3 for Red, Green and Blue) image processing. Their dynamic contrast ratios are fixed at 3,500:1.

The Super Slim LCDs have a built-in TV tuner, and their smaller size and more efficient backlight resulted in decreases in both weight and power consumption, when compared to fuller-bodied examples. The 40 percent smaller backlight does result in lower dynamic contrast ratios, however, with the 42-inch set rated at 1,500:1 and the 46-inch at 2,000:1.

Like their larger Procision cousins, the Super Slim HDTVs have three HDMI inputs, a pair of component inputs and a PC input, but just one S-video connection. The same USB picture viewer is integrated, and JVC will also offer a wall-mount that will bring the TV closer to the wall in addition to the already available VESA-compliant mounts from third parties.

All three are currently available for purchase, priced at $2,000 for the LT-42X899, $2,600 for the LT-47X899 and $3,699 for the LT-52X89. The Super Slim HDTVs are priced at$1,900 and $2,400, respectively, for the LT-42SL89 and LT-46SL89.
