Friday, September 5thCanon kicks off teaser EOS ad campaign
Canon has started up a teaser ad campaign centered around an upcoming digital SLR camera from its EOS line, triggering speculation of a likely update at the Photokina expo this month. While some believe the update to involve the long-expected full-frame, 21.1-megapixel 5D Mark II, with an integrated battery grip, another teaser ad on Canon's Japanese site shows a silhouette of what is most likely a regular-bodied DSLR. There has been no official information from the Japanese camera maker other than a confirmation of a DSLR timed for the event.
One report on Friday points out that teasers on different countries' Canon sites in Europe and Japan points to different-sized models and that there may be a multi-camera launch; a flash hotshoe is visible in some images but not in others.
Accordingly, the same site hosting the rumors has heard claims that there may be two high-end models. An EOS 7D would offer a minor upgrade over the existing 5D in terms of megapixel count and use the newer DIGIC IV chip plus VGA LCD of the EOS 50D, while the EOS 3D will be another full-frame offering with a 21-megapixel sensor.
