Friday, September 5thOppo's first Blu-ray player spotted at CEDIA
Members of community site AVSForum today said they have spotted an unannounced Blu-ray player from Oppo at the CEDIA home theater expo. The BDP-S83 would be the company's first movie reader of the type and currently has no formal announcement, although certain clues are visible from the device. An Ethernet jack confirms that it would come as a Blu-Ray Profile 2.0 player with Internet-based special features.
The leak also shows the expected HDMI output as well as component and likely RCA out for alternate devices. Oppo itself hasn't provided any clues to a launch, though the unannounced state of the S83 suggests it may not appear until early 2009 if not immediately ready to ship.

How about DVD-Audio and SACD playback? A region free DVD player would be nice too...

Oppo rocks...
Betcha it's gonna be region free for DVD. We could only wish on the BD part. All of Oppo's previous products have been region free. I would not put it past them to have DVD-Audio and SACD. Most important to me is region free, PAL to NTSC conversion, and a hell-a upscaller, all of which are again the norm with this company. Next of importance will be profile 2.0 and bitstreaming capability for BD as my HT amp can decode the new audio streams.
