Nokia iPhone rival due Oct 8 with Comes With Music?

Nokia's first touchscreen phone, the 5800 XpressMusic, could be due in exactly one month, according to a purported leak from a source to JAMP. The apparently UK-based insider claims that the mid-range device will ship to the island country on October 8th and may be joined by additional launches in other countries as well; the source doesn't name any carrier exclusives.

When an announcement will take place is unknown, though the timeframe would coincide with an officially planned early October Nokia event that is expected to provide more details about the handset maker's Comes With Music service. Only one phone so far has been announced for CWM, the 5300 XpressMusic, but itself has been characterized as just the first device to support the unlimited music download bundle.

Separately, Nokia has also explained that an unnamed mid-range device is affecting the company's market share through production delays.

Nicknamed the "Tube," the 5800 is believed to be a cross between Nokia's high-end Nseries smartphones and simpler devices with the full Symbian Series 60 operating system but a relatively simple focus that includes media playback, 3G, and Wi-Fi.

"The Tube" in London means the Underground, the Subway... so what the hell. Who is going to buy a phone in the U.K. named after a subway?
