Proavia has unveiled its latest pro audio recording device, the S4UF FireWire disk array. The rack-mount solution uses a dual layer enclosure, claimed to reduce noise generated by disc cooling. Four hot-swappable 7200rpm serial ATA drives can used individually or connected as a RAID array for data protection. The S4UF is compatible with Logic Pro, Pro Tools, Digital Performer, Cakewalk, Samplitude, Nuendo, Cubase, Final Cut Studio, and other software.
The case is set up for standard racks, mobile rack cases, or standalone on a desk. Computers can connect through FireWire 400/800 or USB 2.0, with capacities between 1.0TB and 4.0TB. FW400, FW800, USB2.0, and FireWire800 Bridge cables are all included, and hardware to convert the unit between rack and desktop use. The S4UF is shipping now, however no prices were given.
