Logitech Z-5 Omni Speakers

Logitech this morning took a different approach to its Z-series audio this morning with the Z-5. The system uses a combination of tuned front and back drivers to produce sound with a very wide and allegedly omnidirectional sweet spot. The change produces the speakers' best possible effect on the ear regardless of where the listener is in the room, according to Logitech.

Also rare is a reliance on USB that simplifies setup; the 2.0 channel system consumes sufficiently little power that it can run from a Mac or Windows PC without depending on a separate power brick. A slimline remote is also relatively unique among PC speakers and lets users start up iTunes or another media player and skip tracks without being present at the computer.

The Z-5 set should be ready before the end of the month and will carry a $100 price.
