AOC intros ultra-thin LCD

Low-cost CRT and LCD display manufacturer AOC has recently introduced a 17-inch LCD monitor, the V17, that is just under half on an inch thick (12mm). The panel offers 1440x900 resolution while the contrast ratio is rated at 5,000:1. The 10ms response time is slightly below average for 17-inch screens, though none are this thin. Despite its slim profile, the V17 has a VGA webcam built into its transparent bezel meant for video conferencing, which is supported by an integrated microphone and included video conferencing software.

The stylish screen has a glass base and small, 1W speakers are built in. The sole video inputs includes a VGA port, while the audio connection is via a 3.5mm stereo jack. As AOC is touting the small footprint left on office desks by the V17, such a display would be well suited to low-profile desktop computers such as the Mac mini.

AOC promises to ship the V17 by the end of 2008, pricing it at about $200. It will give buyers a taste of AOC's WLED ultra-thin monitors that are due to start shipping early in 2009. [via Slashgear]
