Intel Celeron M 45nm Leak

Intel is developing a Celeron M processor with the performance of a regular notebook processor but the extremely low energy use of an Atom, a leak from CHW suggests. The 1.2GHz Celeron M 722 would be one of Intel's first budget notebook processors to be built on a 45 nanometer manufacturing process and would consume just 5.5W of typical power, putting its performance closer to that of the 4W but simpler and slower 1.6GHz Atom N270.

It would have a faster 800MHz system bus (versus 533MHz), twice as much Level 2 cache at 1MB and support for much faster integrated GMA 4500MHD graphics that support HD video decoding. The entire processor would also use Intel's new small processor package size and would fit into the same spaces as the Core 2 Duo S, which in prototype form is in use in Apple's MacBook Air and in finished form with the Lenovo ThinkPad X301.

The early description provided by Intel focuses on non-traditional uses for the new mobile Celeron, including game systems and other devices with embedded processors. No immediate clue is given as to the launch date of the 722 or whether there are any particular customers lined up in advance.

    What is the target market

I wonder how this Celeron and GMA 4500MHD compare in price and performance to the CPU/GPU combos in the AppleTV and MacMini. I would really like to see a little more horsepower in the AppleTV so I could run Plex Media Center and play all kinds of HD and SD content. The MacMini works, but at that price I would like it to have the power to do background tasks at the same time.
