Sigma SD15, DP2 cameras

Lens and camera maker Sigma has announced the existence of two new cameras hinted at earlier in the year, the SD15 and the DP2. The former is a DSLR, and a successor to the SD14, which originally premiered two years ago. The 15 makes use of a 14-megapixel Foveon X3 sensor, and a new image processing engine, TRUE II. Few other details available, though Sigma says it will have a three-inch LCD.

The DP2 is a successor to Sigma's DP1 compact, notable for using a DSLR-sized sensor. The new camera will rely on the same sensor as its predecessor, but upgrade to the TRUE II engine, and a new 24.2mm f/2.8 lens, said to be equivalent to 41mm on a regular SLR. The DP1's lens was equivalent to 28mm. The rear LCD on the DP2 measures 2.5 inches.

No prices or release dates have been published for either the DP2 or SD15.

    More Sigma lies

It's not 14 megapixels. Sigma is well known for using creative math. If they say it's 14, it's probably actually somewhere around 5.

Add to that their continued use of crappy Foveon technology, these would be wise choices to pass on.
