Sony Ericsson 5MP handset

A couple of fuzzy photos and unofficial information was leaked about an upcoming Sony Ericsson handset on Thursday. Codenamed Kate, the cellphone sports a 5-megapixel camera in a candybar body that is slightly larger than the C902 in Sony Ericsson’s range, which also sports a 5MP camera. Some believe Kate is the replacement for the K850i, yet another 5MP phone in the handset maker’s line-up. The camera will sport autofocus, Xenon flash and Smile Shutter (face detection) features.

A dedicated button to jump to the gallery of images will be part of the handset’s keys, along with a sliding switch that allows users to quickly pick between still and video camera functions.

The screen should be larger than the C902’s, possibly measuring in at 2.2 inches. The handset will not have GPS functionality, but the 3G HSDPA network will be supported. Kate will support apps using Sony Ericsson’s Java Platform 8.4.

The handset is expected to ship some time in October, priced at the equivalent of about $450. [via Cellphonesail]
