Nero LiquidTV
Nero today introduced a new hardware and software combo that aims to bring full DVR features to those who don't have or prefer to avoid built-in tools such as Windows Media Center. LiquidTV includes TiVo's familiar remote, a USB digital TV tuner, and a customized version of the interface from TiVo's video recorders, all of which effectively mimic the features of the dedicated set-top box. Owners can auto-record suggested TV shows, subscribe to season passes and manually specify show recording from the programming guide.
New to the mix is recognition of PC-specific features like direct video conversion to load on TV shows on to iPod and PSP devices as well as DVD burning. Nero's device also supports HD when available and taps into third-party cable or satellite boxes through an IR blaster also bundled in the pack.
The LiquidTV bundle will be available in October for $200 to Windows owners and will also be accompanied by a $100 downloadable version for those who already have their own TV tuners and other home theater equipment. A full year of TiVo subscription service is included with the software, while renewals for Nero's version cost $99 per year.
