SimpleTech adds 1.5TB Pro, 3TB Duo Pro drives

SimpleTech announced it has added to its line-up of Pro Drive and Duo Pro Drive external storage media on Monday by launching the 1.5TB Pro Drive and the 3TB two-drive RAID 0/1 Duo Pro Drive. Either new drive sports four built-in interfaces, including an eSATA connection, FireWire 800, FireWire 400 and USB 2.0. Thanks to eSATA, users can transfer files at up to 3Gb per second in peak conditions.

SimpleTech includes parent company Fabrik’s backup software with each Pro and Duo Pro Drive, along with 2GB of free online storage. All the drives are also have a slot to make them compatible with security locks. The Pro and Duo Pro drives are shaped to be stackable.

The Duo Pro drive can be configured in a RAID 0 (stripe) or RAID 1 (mirror) configuration, with the former dubbed a Speed Mode, using both drives to deliver read and write speeds six times faster than USB 2.0 speeds, and the latter Copy Mode making two copies of each file for backup purposes.

The 1.5TB Pro Duo Drive is priced at $420, while the 2TB version costs $550. The 3TB model’s price is not yet set, though it will hit the market before 2009. The Pro Drive ranges from $160 for the 500GB version and tops out at $260 for a 1TB version. The newly announced 1.5TB Pro Drive will launch before 2009, though its pricing has not been announced. For users who do not have an eSATA port on their computer, SimpleTech offers an adapter card for $70. All drives are Mac and PC compatible.

The phrase "made up of" is a term generally intended for when multiple components combine into one thing. It really isn't appropriate for introducing a list.
