JVC intros SDHC HD cams

At the CEATEC show in Japan which kicked off on Tuesday, JVC showed off its first Full HD video camcorder that relies solely on an SDHC memory card as its storage medium instead of a built-in hard disk drive and memory card slot, like previous Everio camcorders. While the cameras were officially concepts, they looked production-ready, although JVC did not reveal any specs and even the megapixel count was conspicuously absent from the body of the camcorders.

The two cameras will be AVCHD-format compatible, being capable of recording 1080p high definition video thanks to the format’s efficient codecs. An HDMI port will be included in either as-of-yet unnamed camcorder. The photos reveal the laser touch feature that allows control over playback is back.

While pricing has not been announced, it should come in well below the $800 price of the current JVC GZ-HD10 HD camera, which includes a 40GB HDD drive and SD card slot. [via Akihabara]
