Thursday, October 2ndD-Link opens up router USB port with SharePort tech
D-Link on Wednesday introduced its Xtreme N Dual Band Gigabit DIR-825 router which, for the first time, allows its USB port to turn into a virtual-network USB that will support external hard drives and other USB devices. Made possible by D-Link’s SharePort technology, the new feature lets users connect network attached storage devices and printers to their wireless networks. D-Link’s older USB Wireless-N routers can be updated with the same functionality thanks to a firmware update that will include the SharePort feature.
The firmware update will launch this week and is compatible with D-Link’s DIR-628, DIR-655, DIR-855 and DGL-4500 routers. Along with SharePort, it will also endow the mentioned devices with the DIR-825’s HDFuel technology and energy conserving software. HDFuel optimizes the wireless bandwidth for HD content.
As its name implies, the DIR-825 also features it has gigabit Ethernet and dual-band wireless support, enabling it to send out Wireless-N signals in both 2.4GHz and 5GHz frequencies.
D-Link is now offering the DIR-825 on its online store, pricing it at nearly $200. [via Crave]

Airport overpriced?
So what happened to the Airport extreme being overpriced? Sounds like it's cheaper than this guy.
Mac support?
Too bad the SharePort utility is an .exe file! Come on, D-Link! We need OSX support!
Not just exe
If you go into the D-Link site's support section and find the downloads for your router, you'll find a zip file containing the firmware in a binary file.
I hope they extend this improved USB port functionality to the DIR-615, but I'm not holding my breath.
