Digital Foci intros frame

Digital Foci on Monday unveiled its Image Moments 6 high-resolution digital frame built around a 5.7-inch, 640x480 LCD screen with a 300:1 contrast ratio. What the company claims is the highest pixel density (at 140ppi) digital photo frame on the market is also dubbed as The Executive, and features an LED backlight that delivers more colors than other technologies. The frame is also unique in that it allows users to display photos and play music or videos at the same time and from multiple sources, be it the internal memory or any one of the seven supported memory cards.

The frame’s user interface allows choosing photos or other files from folders and subfolders to include in a playlist without moving, copying or deleting them or any others, making collages of music, video and photos. The frame has 450MB of built-in memory and memory card slots that support CF, SDHC, MMC, Memory Stick and MS Pro, xD Picture Card, MS Duo and MS PRO Duo memory card formats. Supported file formats include JPG, BMP, TIFF, GIF and RAW images from many popular cameras, while audio files supported include AAC, MP3, OGG, WAV and WMA. MJPEG and MPEG4-SP video compatibility means many source files will need to be converted.

Another feature lets users copy images from inserted cards to the internal memory, eliminating the need for a PC, although a USB port is integrated to allow transfers directly from computers. A sensor will rotate portrait photos based on EXIF information recorded at the time of capture during a slideshow, which can be customized with time interval settings, transition effects and randomly. Three timers can be set to turn the frame on or off as needed.

The frame includes speakers as well as an audio jack for connection to an external speaker set. Navigating the menu is done via a joystick and buttons or via the wireless remote control.

Digital Foci also showed off a larger, 8-inch version of the Image Moments 6, whose screen sports an 800x600 resolution. The Image Moments 6 can be pre-ordered now, though the ship date is set for October 13th. It is priced at $149. There has been no announcement regarding pricing for the larger 8-inch frame.
