Vodafone makes BB Storm official, giveaway offer

Vodafone recently launched an official website for the upcoming BlackBerry Storm 9500 handheld for its customers in the United Kingdom, offering users a 360 degree view of the device, as well as views of several of its features. While Vodafone is silent on when to expect shipment (a notice on the page merely says "Coming Soon"), the company highlights a promotional give-away, in which there are 20 of the devices for users to win before October 25th.

The BlackBerry Storm represents Research In Motion's first direct response to Apple's iPhone, differing in some ways through a pressure-sensitive LCD, text highlight, and copy/paste functionality. Still, some analysts observe that RIM has its "head in the sand" when it comes to competing with the popular device.

The iPhone is also making inroads to RIM's territory, having recently been discovered to occupy 17 percent of the US smartphone market, or more than one in every six smartphone handsets. The news was followed by an estimation of 7.5 million iPhone 3G sales, observed by Bullish Cross from an IMEI tracking list.
