Toshiba intros notebooks

Toshiba Canada recently bolstered its notebook lineup with four new products, including an all-new Tecra R10 premium notebook meant for business users, which the company is touting as the fastest and most secure Toshiba notebook to date, a Wednesday report reveals. The remaining three include updated ultra portable Portégé-series notebooks with the A600 and an update to the R600, while a new M750 Tablet PC was also introduced.

The R10 includes a 2.4GHz dual-core Intel chip along with 4GB of RAM. Its 14.1-inch, 1280x800 screen produces graphics thanks to NVIDIA’s Quadro NVS 150M controller with a dedicated 128MB of video memory. Its 7200rpm 200GB hard drive is preloaded with Windows Vista Business, though users have the option to downgrade to Windows XP as the appropriate discs are included. A dual-layer DVD burner, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi modules, and a built-in webcam are also standard fare.

At the same time, the 12.1-inch, 1280x800 Portégé R600 has been lightened further still versus the R500 and now weighs just 2.14lbs, with Toshiba claiming it is the world‘s thinnest and lightest notebook. It uses Intel’s 1.2GHz ultra-low voltage Core 2 Duo to help it achieve a maximum battery life of nine hours. In includes a 160GB hard drive pre-loaded with Windows Vista Business and 2GB of memory that is upgradeable to 5GB. A dual-layer DVD burner is included.

Using the same 12.1-inch screen and chassis but tipping the scales at just over 3lbs is the Portégé A600. It otherwise shares the R600’s specs, including the Intel GMA X4500 graphics controller with 256MB of shared video memory.

The M750 tablet uses a 12.1-inch, 1280x800 touchscreen and a 2.4GHz dual-core Intel CPU with 2GB of RAM. The included 200GB, 7200rpm hard drive contains Windows Vista Business and Image Recovery software. As with the other new releases, a dual-layer DVD burner, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi modules, and a built-in webcam are included.

All are available on Toshiba’s Canadian webstore now, with the R10 priced from $1,999 CAD, the R600 from $2,399 CAD, the A600 at $1,499 CAD. The new M750 tablet begins at $2,199 CAD. US versions of some or all the models are expected at a later date.
