MacBooks shipping from China, arriving in stores
MacNN can confirm that Apple's newly announced MacBooks are now shipping, coming out of Shanghai, China. The Apple Store is listing waits of one to three business days, with free shipping on standard configurations (as well as next business day delivery for ony $16); custom orders extend waits to anywhere between two and four days. In practice however, some notebooks are being delivered on a next-day timeframe, regardless of the Apple Store's promise of five-day free shipping and two- to three-day expedited shipping. In addition, retails stores are also reporting shipments of the new laptops, including the San Francisco store, which received its first shipment of new laptops this morning at 11 am PT.
Apple announced the new MacBooks Tuesday, which have aluminum enclosures, a new graphics chip (the NVIDIA GeForce 9400M), a glass multi-touch trackpad, and LED-backlit displays. The computers are available in 2.0GHz and 2.4GHz models for $1,300 and $1,500, respectively, with options for more RAM, larger hard disks, solid-state drives and more.

Not Everyone...
I ordered my 2.0 Ghz MacBook last night about 2 hours after the press conference. It shipped out last night and arrived this morning. The FedEx tracking information indicates it was picked up from a facility in Memphis, taken to the main FedEx hub there and shipped out directly. We got it this morning.
It didn't come from China at all
it did come from China
Made in China.
Stockpiled in FedEx hub (Memphis)
Delivered overnight.
mine didn't
I ordered it within a half hour of the Apple Store coming back online and checked 5-day delivery. It shipped last night from Lewisberry, PA, and will be delivered to me in Boston tomorrow. Man, I didn't expect it to arrive THAT fast!
MacBook
What type of MacBook did you order?
Not yet shipped
I ordered a MacBook Pro 2.8 GHz with the faster HD yesterday as soon as the store came back online right after the event. It sill hasn't shipped. Hitting the refresh button anxiously here. They're usually pretty fast in delivering stuff. Let's hope I get mine still this week. :-)
Lewisberry
Lewisberry is another Fedex Hub. Mainly Fedex Ground though.
what I got
I ordered the basic $1299 MacBook and also a free-with-rebate Canon two-in-one. Both apparently are coming tomorrow by FedEx ground.
Re: not yet shipped
Custom ordered, it sounds like. That will take a couple of days (assuming they have the drives available).
Why bother shipping them
with iMovie when there's no FW port?
Please
For the love of whoever your deity is, can we close down the "Oh, the MacBook has no FireWire" issue. iMovie doesn't need a FireWire port, never has. I'm not going in to the same arguments we've gone over about 500 times now. FireWire--cool as it was--is dead. Get the freak over it.
