MSI Wind drops to $350

An online Best Buy listing has been spotted on Wednesday and is offering a version of the 10-inch MSI Wind netbook for just short of $350, which is the least expensive Wind ever by about $50. The specific model is U100-420US, which is powered by Intel's 1.6GHz Intel Atom CPU coupled to 1GB of RAM, and includes an 802.11b/g Wi-Fi module to stay true to its Wind name, which, according to MSI, was taken from Wi-Fi Network Device.

While the model only comes in black, other specs include a three-cell battery and a 2.3lb weight. The battery life is rated at 2.5 hours. A 1.3-megapixel webcam is also integrated. Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition is preloaded onto the 120GB, 5,400RPM SATA hard disk drive. Three USB 2.0 ports are available for expansion. What buyers don't get, however, is Bluetooth or wired network support in the form of an Ethernet port.

The MSI Wind price drop comes about two weeks after a similar Best Buy listing was spotted for the cheapest ASUS Eee PC to date, breaking the $300 price barrier. Both are part of a larger trend of manufacturers offering entry-level and aging models at lower prices to clear them out and make room for newer stock. [via Liliputing]
