Zune 8GB Canada Promo
Canadian big-box retailer Future Shop has launched an unusual campaign that sees it drop the price of the Zune 8GB by $50 to just $100. The deal lasts until November 20th for all colors and significantly undercuts both the American and Canadian prices for a device which is still considered current-generation, with the Zune 8GB having received a software upgrade and a more permanent cut to $150 in September.
It's not clear whether Future Shop or Microsoft has prompted the deal, though such steep discounts are rare for products that are unlikely to be sold as clearance items. Microsoft has regularly permitted discounts on Zunes but never at these levels outside of obsolete models. The move also takes place during the height of the holiday shopping season but is also unusual given the stability of pricing for the iPod nano in Canada that would let Microsoft apply more modest cuts without triggering a response from Apple.
The retailer is also selling the identically current Zune 120GB for $234, or $16 less than the official price. [via Engadget]
