Dmedia G400 to offer WiMAX
Taiwan's dmedia System has recently showcased its G400 WiMAX mobile Internet device (MID). The G400 is to include a 3.8- or 4.3-inch, 800x480-pixel touchscreen via which users will be able to access the Internet and many applications it makes possible, including VoIP, streaming video and video conferencing, as well as NextWave's MXtv mobile broadcast service. Apart from access to the high-speed WiMAX mobile broadband network, the G400 also promises to bring with it Bluetooth support, a built-in GPS sensor and HSPDA/WCDMA data network access.
The processor used to power the device is believed to be a SiRFprima System-on-Chip design that sports an ARM11 core along with 3D graphics accelerator and video decoder. To get multimedia content onto the device, users rely on a microSD memory card slot. The small device will be powered by a 1400mAh battery and will be capable of being outfitted with various digital or mobile TV tuners.
The device is expected to launch in the first half of 2009, with a full-on release including complete specs expected at the CES show in mid-January. Thus far, there is no indication of pricing or release markets information. [via Pocketables]
