Tuesday, November 18th24-inch LED Cinema Display up for orders
Apple's new 24-inch LED Cinema Display, first announced back in October, is now available for order at the Apple Store. It is the company's first monitor with a Mini Display Port connection, and additionally hosts three USB ports plus a MagSafe power connector; both this and the Display Port link are intended to support Apple's new range of MacBooks. Thanks to LED technology, the monitor offers more light and better color accuracy than regular LCD displays.
The display's integrated microphone, speakers and iSight webcam add to the range of functions, and it likewise incorporates the aluminum and glass construction of its parent computers. A Kensington lock slot is included for security. The monitor is listed at $899 and includes free shipping.

And how about that...
nice shiny candy coated screen, eh?Hey, what an interesting configuration of fluorescent lighting... oh! look at the interesting cloud pattern! Is that my SO watching over my shoulder as I bitch about glossy candy coated screens?Steve... come on, wake up. Shut the door on marketing for a moment.
Pre-order shipping
I thought this site was supposed to relay the news, not make them up. The monitor is available for pre-order only. There is no indication of when it will be shipping, other than November. On another note, the glossy screen is not bad at all. I have a MacBook Pro and I'm impressed with the quality and brightness of the screen. Only in certain situations/locations it's an issue. Most of the time it's perfectly bright and vivid.
Re: Pre-order shipping
It doesn't say its going to ship. It says
is now available for order at the Apple Store.

Loren, are you on meth or something? What are you talking about?
New Apple screen
Just came across a new Eizo 24" LED back-lit monitor (matte screen), 5-yr warranty, for $700.
The Eizo specs seem the same as 'known' specs of the new Apple unit. Anyone know if the panel mfg is the same?

why iSight?
maybe I'm being slow...this only connects to a new Macbook (Pro), with its own iSight bult-in. So it has - iSight.
maybe it will make more sense later.
I suppose it might be that some people close their macbook to run an external but that seems pretty daft...
Connections
Wonder if this will ONLY work with the new macbooks. What about an older macbook? A Mac-mini? I'd buy one, but not if the connections don't exist.
Oh well.....
Apples web site confirms ("System requirements") that it will only work with the newer macbooks, so they will lose sales on this display as a result. Fortunately, there are many other good alternatives out there!
