Mitsubishi wide projectors

Mitsubishi Digital Electronics America on Wednesday announced the release of two new 500-series projectors with the wide-format WD510U and WD500U-ST. Both have 1280x800 native resolution and 16:10 aspect ratios and are meant for use in education and business industries. The WD510U has a brightness rating of 2,600 lumens, with the WD500U-ST rated at 2,100 lumens.

Both use Texas Instruments' DDP 2230 DMD chip with DLP technology to reproduce colors. The pair can account for beige, blue, green, pink, blackboard and whiteboard projection surfaces to create color-correct images. The WD510U has a contrast ratio of 2,000:1. The WD500U-ST is a short-throw projector meant to work in close quarters, capable of throwing up 60-inch images only 28 inches from the screen. Its contrast ratio is rated at 2,500:1. Lamp life is rated at 4,000 hours of life for either new projector.

Connections for either 500-series unit include a pair of VGA inputs, DVI-D with HDCP support, a PC audio and 3.5mm stereo mini jack as well as RCA for audio and video and S-video connection. There is an Ethernet jack for network control of the projectors, and a 2W speaker is integrated into each. For security, there is a password lock and a sturdy security bar.

The Mitsubishi WD510U is available now, priced at $1,495. The WD500U-ST costs $1,695.
