ASUS U6V Bamboo Tomorrow

ASUS today said it would launch its Bamboo U6V notebook tomorrow through the IT Month expo in its home region of Taiwan. The 12-inch ultraportable's real bamboo outer shell will boost the price of the system to the equivalent of $1,799, putting a premium on the more renewable and more eco-friendly wood versus plastic or metal.

The system is high-end among ultraportables and carries at least a 2.26GHz Core 2 Duo, a GeForce 9300M GS for video and a 250GB hard drive in addition to an internal DVD burner. Higher-end models can carry up to a 2.53GHz processor, a 320GB disk and as much as 4GB of RAM.

ASUS now also confirms that it plans to ship the system to the US and Europe but is currently deciding on a release date. A final price is also undecided but may come close to the Taiwan currency given similarities to US pricing. [via PC World]
