First German Apple Store en route; Greensboro delay

Apple's first German retail store is due to open this week, the company has announced. The shop is situated at 1 Rosenstraße in Munich, and will throw open its doors at 10AM local time this Saturday, December 6th. Visitors will of course be able to test Macs, iPods and iPhones; as an incentive to arrive early, the first 2,500 people to come will be given a free Apple t-shirt. Although the store should be closed on Sundays, regular hours are slated to be a consistent 9AM to 8PM Monday through Saturday.

It is meanwhile rumored that an Apple Store for Greensboro, North Carolina will not be ready in time for Christmas as had been expected. The problem is said to lie with new operators of the Friendly Center mall, who have allegedly fought with Apple over which space the company can build in. CBL Properties is thought to be arguing that Apple is no different than any other computer retailer, and should not have access to one of the best storefronts in the mall.

Documents involved in the debacle indicate that Apple is projected to spend $1,772,835 on the store, assuming conflicts do not force it to relocate.

Does the Friendly Center Mall have profit sharing as part of their leasing agreement (I was surprised to learn that most malls get a portion of profits of the stores in the mall)..

If "Yes", then the friendly Center should really cater to Apple, since the stores are all so profitable. Here in our local mall, the Apple Store has more total revenue than the JC Penney's and the Sears stores --shocking huh?--I'm not talking about revenue per square foot, I'm talking about total revenue.. Our local Apple Store has higher revenue than all other stores in the mall except the Macy's and Nordstroms....

If the reports from Greensboro are true, the Friendly Center Mall must be nuts to risk blowing the Apple Store deal over an argument about location. What are they thinking?

Hey, North Carolina was stupid enough to give millions away to Dell to build a plant in Kernersville, so shooting themselves in the foot is par for the course here.
