Truphone launches VoIP app for iPod touch, iPhone

Truphone has launched a new VoIP application that enables an iPod touch to be used as a phone. If equipped with a microphone and headphones, the device can make phone calls to Google Talk or Skype users, another Truphone-enabled iPod touch, or certain Nokia handsets, from anywhere in the world where a Wi-Fi connection is available. Other features include instant messaging to Skype and MSN, along with the ability to check and set facilities for both Twitter and Facebook.

Truphone works with the iPhone or 2nd-generation Touch, and is available for free from the App Store. Calling between the VoIP services is free, but calls made to domestic landlines or mobile phones will incur a six-cent per minute charge, while SMS messages cost 20 cents. International rates vary by country.

I have (had) the one for the iphone and I could never load more money on it... Tried over the period of a week multiple ways... So I gave up... But it worked great with the free trail $ lasted.

Couldn't they make one version of this app that works on both iPhone and iPod touch?

I give this app 5 more minutes before it gets yanked. Someone at the App Store's head is gonna roll for letting this through.

No reason for it to be pulled. It only works over wi-fi, so there's no concern from the ATT folks about it bringing its most advanced network to its knees.

Are you sure Truphone does Skype? The iTunes store page says it's "like Skype" and that's it.
