Clevo intros new notebooks

Taiwanese PC maker Clevo on Tuesday announced a number of new notebook PCs it will display at the CeBIT show at the start of March. The company will also launch its first netbook entry, the 7-inch convertible tablet TN70M, equipped with a 1024x600 touchscreen. The device will use an Intel Atom Z-series chip along with built-in Wi-Fi and GPS functionality. Tipping the scales at just over 2lbs, users will also get an ExpressCard slot and six hours of battery life with Wi-Fi web browsing. The netbook will have a passive cooling design and not use noisy and power-sapping fans.

Another netbook first for Clevo, the more traditional M710L will have a larger 1024x600, 10.2-inch LCD and a faster 1.6GHz Atom CPU. It will have a 2.5-inch hard drive of unknown capacity and for the first time in a netbook, an optical DVD drive. Wi-Fi and mobile data network connectivity will be optional. Continuing on the netbook front, the Clevo M810L will share the same above-mentioned specs and options, but will be ultra-thin, coming in at less than 1.2 inches. The last of the netbooks is the T890M convertible tablet ruggedized for outdoor use. It sports an 8.9-inch, 1024x600 touchscreen and an 800MHz Atom processor. It will be officially introduced in the second quarter of next year.

Moving up in size, cost and features, the TN120T is a 12.1-inch touchscreen convertible notebook running on Intel's Centrino 2 platform, which supports 45nm, Core 2 Duo Penryn-era CPUs, a 1,066MHz FSB, DDR3 memory and mobile WiMax. Intel's GM45 graphics processor will be integrated. Full specs on the notebook are expected this year.

The Clevo R130T is a 13.3-inch notebook, with the new R designation denoting a series of rugged PCs. It will be powered by an ultra-low voltage Intel CPU, most likely from the Core 2 SU9000 series. It will sport a 2.5-inch hard drive and optical drive, and also be based on the Centrino 2 platform.

Another new line indicating widescreen notebooks with 16:9 aspect ratios kicks off with the W760 series. It will have a 15.6-inch screen and is otherwise expected to share specs with Clevo's current M760/M770-series notebooks, which includes a choice of AMD and Intel chips along with a number of other features, including Wi-Fi and mobile data network access.

Unlike previously reported, the M98 will not be the replacement for the current Clevo flagship, the D901C. Instead, Clevo is expected to show the D900F early next year, which will be available with a 17-inch screen with resolution as high as 1920x1200. All that's known is that the D900F will use a new Intel desktop platform, though it is not known if it will be offered with the Core i7. It will, however, use an NVIDIA SLI graphics card like the current D901C and connections including HDMI, dual-link DVI port and an eSATA port, among others.

The M980NU is still coming and will be the largest notebook offered by Clevo, sporting an 18.4-inch 1920x1080 display and support for Intel's quad-core mobile CPUs. With a heavy emphasis on graphics performance, the notebook will sport NVIDIA's GeForce 9400M chipset for power saving as well as two NVIDIA 9800M GTX video cards for maximum performance.
