Viliv S5 MID brings 1080p

Earlier this summer, Korea's Viliv introduced a pair of personal electronics with the S7 UMPC and S5 Mobile Internet Device and today has been followed up with hard S5 specifications. It will be capable of decoding 1080p HD video and playing it back on its 4.8-inch touchscreen sourced from Samsung, with resolutions varying between 800x480 and 1024x600, depending on the particular model. Power will come from a 1.33GHz Intel Atom CPU along with 1GB or RAM, while the 6,200mAh battery is said to last at least 4.5 hours even when the device is playing back 1080p video.

The fanless MID will offer 3G data network access, a GPS module and DMB TV tuner as options, with all models getting a Flash 10-based interface. Hard drives of unspecified capacity in either a 1.8-inch size or domestic-only 1.3-inch size will be on the options sheet as well. Users will interface with the device and browse the Internet via a virtual keyboard running on Windows XP. Connections include an audio input and output, one USB and a single external monitor output.

Unlike previously reported, the S5 has been delayed from a late 2008 release to an early 2009 one instead and will potentially bow at CES. Prices are still unknown. The larger S7 UMPC is also due for an upcoming release, though no other specifics regarding the device have been released. [via SlashGear]
