Garmin nuvifone screens

Garmin has posted screen captures for its upcoming GPS-based cellphone, the nuvifone, providing hints as to the handset's features and capabilities. The screenshots come ahead of an expected official look at the device at next week's CES expo in Las Vegas. The nuvifone features a 3.5-inch touchscreen, the same size as that the screen on Apple's iPhone; the interface also appears to be familiar, with a layout that mimics the iPhone in terms of buttons, icons and window dimensions.

The captures confirm that the nuvifone will also provide iPhone-like contact and calendar options, and the ability to geotag all photos and videos captured by its integrated camera. Apart from a built-in Wi-Fi module, the nuvifone should also have 3G HSDPA data access. [via GPSTracklog]

    looks nice

This could be a serious contender when it comes time for me to decide to renew my iPhone contract in June... the final selling point for me will be the camera and browser. If the browser is as capable as Safari then Apple better be worried.

    not being truthful

It is, um, highly unlikely they are using a 500x880 screen.

These are just mockups, drawn up by an artist to look great.

Actual display will look much crappier, like their current GPS devices do.

Maybe its actual shots that will be scaled for the device? Seriously we have no idea at this point. I'm of the mind that they are mocked up, but when I was doing handheld development we were running emulators on PCs and the screens we saw were much larger than the device's native resolution.

Whats c*** about Garmin's current GPS offerings? Seriously? The devices are dirt simple to use and you can combine GIS data over the mapped data with a little time and effort.
