Samsung Thin Blu Player

Samsung will try to stake a claim for the world's thinnest Blu-ray player when it unveils its CES offerings, a leak ahead of the event reveals. The unnamed movie reader will be as thin as many DVD players and should measure just 1.5 inches thick; few features are available, though the player will have a more rounded look than earlier Samsung players and is likely to carry Blu-ray Profile 2.0 support for live Internet features.

The Blu-ray hardware is set to show up in its creator's CES press conference on Wednesday and should receive both pricing and ship dates at that point. Samsung is also set to introduce a quarter-inch thick HDTV at the event as a companion piece.

    "world's thinnest Blu-ray player"

That's what passes for a selling point? Note to Samsung execs: thinness is laudible in portable devices or when going from, say, 10 inches to 1 inch. Who cares whether a DVD player is 3 inches or 1.5 inches tall?

Of course we haven't heard the real announcement, maybe it's got some nifty new features and only costs $100. Then they'd have a winner.
