Dell G2x10 and Mini TV

Continuing its efforts in Las Vegas, Dell today released the G2210 and G2410. The 22- and 24-inch screens are both LED-backlit and focus on eco-friendliness. While the lighting is their point of distinction and roughly halves the amount of power consumption at just 20W, the body itself is made partly of recycled material and is about 20 percent smaller, using less material. Image quality also sees a distinctive benefit and sees the contrast ratio jump from 1,000:1 in static mode to 1,000,000:1 when the LEDs' dynamic lighting is invoked.

Both panels have 5ms pixel response times, 250cd/m2 brightness and input through both DVI and VGA. The G2210 adopts a typical 16:10 ratio with a 1680x1050 display, but the G2410 moves to a wider 16:9, 1920x1080 image. Dell starts taking orders in late February at respective prices of $279 and $359.

Additionally, Dell has released a USB Digital TV Tuner meant chiefly for the Inspiron Mini. The device is customized for specific regions and will pick up digital over-the-air broadcasts in ATSC for North America, DVB-T in Europe and 1Seg in Japan as well as the impending CMMB format in China. The company also promises to offer native drivers for Ubuntu Linux as well as Windows XP and Vista. Dell promises to offer the tuner before spring for $50 but will ship it to Europe first, followed by North America and the Asia-Pacific region.

    Argh...

I'm quite used to a 1920 x 1200 monitor, so why would I want to lose almost 200 x 1920 worth of screen real estate? Dumb.
