ViewSonic dips into netbooks, AIO desktops

ViewSonic today ventured into relatively unknown territory for itself by launching its first, full-fledged computers. The VieBook (content to come soon) is its take on the netbook and carries specs similar to most other models using a 10-inch display, with a 1.6GHz Atom, 1GB of memory, a 160GB hard drive, a 1.3 megapixel webcam and Bluetooth rounding out its feature set. The system will ship in February for $429 and comes preloaded with Windows XP.

The ViePC VPC 100 is an all-in-one desktop equivalent meant to compete against similar nettops, such as the ASUS Eee Top and MSI Wind NetOn. It carries the same internal hardware as the VieBook but adds an 18.5-inch, 16:9 ratio LCD and is meant as both a kitchen PC for the home and as a small but complete desktop for offices that don't need the full power of usual desktops. It likewise arrives in February but will cost $549 thanks to its larger screen.

The company's last entry, the ViePC Attached PC, is closest in design to small form factor desktops like the Mac mini but includes connections to mate with any computer display that has a VESA wall mount and hide it from view. Its internal hardware is again identical to the VieBook's but, thanks to the box shape, allows four USB ports as well as both DVI and VGA outputs. ViewSonic ships it last of the three new systems and will sell it for $399 in March.
