LED pocket projectors
Samsung and Kinyo/ArtDio have unveiled pocket-sized projectors using competing technology. Samsung's MBP 200 uses DLP technology, while Kinyno chose LCOS, or Liquid Crystal On Silicon. Both models are capable of displaying images up to about 50 inches, but the similarities end there.
Samsung is clearly targeting mobile phone users, calling the MBP-200 "the ultimate wireless accessory." Measuring 4.2- x 1.8- x 0.7-inches, the device connects to mobile phones and computers and includes a microSD slot. Samsung has also included a built-in 200MB media player that can independently display Microsoft Office and PDF documents. A 2.2-inch QVGA LCD screen allows private viewing. Audio can be played through a "built-in external speaker," headphones or other speakers. The device is expected to be available later this year -- pricing has not been announced.
Taiwan-based Kinyo/ArtDio is taking a bare-bones approach with a no-frills projector expected to sell for under $250. The M100's brushed metal case is about the size of a point-and-shoot camera, measuring 2.4- x 2.1- x 1.4- inches; Kinyo uses standard 3.5mm jacks for A/V input and external speakers. A tiny built-in speaker is also included.
A quick demo of the M100 revealed a sharp, but somewhat dim picture. When viewed in a room with the lights off and curtains closed, however, the projector does the job. The M100 is expected to be available in the spring.

That would be very nice to take on the road when travelling, saving the weight and bulk of carrying a small multi-function display. As I do when I travel for work. I look forward to a smaller HD version in a few years.
